Restylane - "Natural Beauty- Made in Sweden!"

Restylane is a long-lasting and crystal-clear gel for filling out lips, facial wrinkles and facial folds. Thanks to Q-Med's stabilization process the hyaluronic acid in Restylane is almost identical to that naturally found in the body and only very slightly modified (0.5 - 1%). Other hyaluronic acid based, injectable implants are often modified by about 20%. Restylane is therefore completely biologically degradable - the body's metabolism of hyaluronic acid corresponds to 200 syringes of Restylane per day. The product is also naturally integrated into the tissue, thus allowing important nutritive agents to pass freely through the implant and cells to pass between fragments of the gel.

Details: Restylane smoothes wrinkles and enhances lips instantly. If you want to soften wrinkles and folds, or if you want to improve the image of your lips, there is a NEW ANSWER to your needs.

Restylane is an innovation based on non-animal hyaluronic acid, manufactured by a unique method in the Q-Med Laboratories in Sweden. The treatment is performed by injecting Restylane into the skin or lip, and because no skin test is required it takes less than 30 minutes. Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the body and therefore dissolves naturally with time.

Procedure: Restylane is injected into the dermis and provides volume where the concentration of the body's own hyaluronic acid has decreased. One treatment session takes about 30 minutes. The results can be seen immediately and no scars or other marks are left on the face. Even though the treated area can swell up somewhat and be red for up to one day afterwards, it is quite possible to meet other people and work as normal. The patented stabilization method means that Restylane has a longer-lasting effect than competing preparations.

Length: The treatment takes about 30 minutes and the result is prompt.

Anesthesia: When treating wrinkles, pain relief may not be necessary, but often a local anesthetic such as lidocaine is used.

In/Outpatient: Inpatient procedure

Side-Effects/Risks: Reactions are very uncommon, but about 1 in 2000 persons have experienced transient swelling, redness and tenderness at or near the treatment site(s) up to several weeks after treatment. For further details concerning your specific treatment, please consult the doctor.

Recovery: Immediately after the treatment the treated area can be slightly swollen and red. This is a normal result of the injection, and it generally goes away in 72 hours.

Results: How long the effect of Restylane treatment lasts depends on the individual patient. The length of effect depends on many factors, such as the structure of the skin, lifestyle and age as well as on the degree of perfection desired by the individual. However, we know that for the majority of the patients treated about 50-80% of the effect remains after 6 months. Most people choose to have a touchup done within a year of the original treatment. Clinical studies show that Restylane can offer a high degree of patient satisfaction even up to one year after treatment.

The great thing about Restylane is that you can replenish your natural beauty whenever you feel the need. A touchup can be performed any time you like after the previous treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q. WHAT IS RESTYLANE?

A. It is a gel that is injected under the skin in order to add volume and lift up the lips, wrinkles and folds. Restylane consists of hyaluronic acid, which is a natural substance already present in the skin. Once in the skin, Restylane works together with the body´s own hyaluronic acid to create volume.

Q. WHAT IS HYALURONIC ACID?

A. Some of the functions of hyaluronic acid in the body are to create increased skin thickness and volume, to give the eye its shape andto lubricate joints.

Q. HOW IS RESTYLANE PRODUCED?

A. The hyaluronic acid in Restylane is, in contrast to other similar substances, not produced from animals. This means no risk for adverse events.

Q. WHICH AREAS CAN BE TREATED?

A. The most common areas are the glabellar lines (between the eyebrows), the nasolabial folds (from the root of the nose to the angle of the mouth) and the lips but also other sites can be treated. Very superficial or very deep wrinkles may be difficult to correct. Please consult your physician for a judgment.

Q. WHICH RESULT CAN BE OBTAINED FROM A LIP-TREATMENT?

A. The vermilion border can be accentuated and the lips can be given more volume.

Q. WHAT IS TREATMENT WITH RESTYLANE LIKE?

A. A Restylane treatment is a very easy and quick process. Since no skin testing is needed, the treatment can be made immediately and it takes about 30 minutes. The result is instant. Restylane is injected with a very thin needle under the skin. The same needle used for Botox is used for Restylane injections.

Q. DO THE INJECTIONS HURT?

A. It depends on how pain sensitive you are. When used to treat wrinkles and skin folds, the injections may cause some discomfort. Often a local anesthesia such as lidocaine is used to eliminate pain from Restylane injections. For many individuals, no anesthesia is needed for treatment of wrinkles and folds. Many people report that the injections are relatively painless.

A lip treatment can be uncomfortable and therefore, a nerve block is normally made.

Q. CAN THE MATERIAL BE REMOVED?

A. No, but since Restylane is a natural material, it dissolves with time. It is always possible to use smaller amounts of Restylane for more subtle skin and lip filling, with additional treatment(s) performed after several weeks until the desired result is achieved.

Q. IS IT DANGEROUS?

A. Restylane is a safe product. Since hyaluronic acid is naturally present in the body, the skin does not react to the material. With over 100,000 people treated today, only a very small number of reactions have been reported. These reactions may consist of prolonged but temporary redness, swelling, itching or tenderness. Most have lasted for a couple of weeks.

Q. HOW WILL MY SKIN LOOK AFTER THE TREATMENT ?

A. Immediately after the treatment, there may be a slight redness, swelling, tenderness or itching sensation at the treated area. This is only normal cause of the injection and the inconvenience is temporary- it generally goes away in 72 hours. After a lip treatment, the lips may get swollen and look somewhat uneven. This can persist for a several days (up to a week).

Q. HOW LONG IS THE EFFECT?

A. Restylane eventually totally disappears out of the body. How long the effect of a Restylane treatment lasts depends on the individual. It depends on many factors such as the structure of the skin, lifestyle and age as well as on the degree of perfection demanded by the individual. For the majority of the patients, after a wrinkle treatment, about 50-80% of the effect remains after 6 months and most people choose to have a touchup treatment done within a year of the original treatment. For lip augmentation, a new treatment is needed after about 6 months.

Q. HOW WILL MY SKIN LOOK WITHOUT "TOUCHUP" TREATMENTS?

A. The correction will gradually disappear until your skin looks like it did before the treatment. Touchup injections will help you maintain your correction.
