What is LIPODISSOLVE™?

  • LIPODISSOLVE™ is the name of a treatment with microinjections to induce fat removal of the face and body without surgery.
  • Much more economical than liposuction or tuck and lift surgery, LIPODISSOLVE™ is one of the most cost-effective means of achieving fat reduction. If you are already leading a healthy lifestyle, LIPODISSOLVE™ can refine those more difficult-to-tone areas of your body.
  • The LIPODISSOLVE™ injection solution is very highly purified and prepared in the United States according to strict FDA standards. It contains PPC, deoxycholate and benzyl alcohol. The injected solution works by first causing breakdown of fat cell walls and release of the fatty acid contents, which are removed safely through the liver. This reduces the volume in the injected areas. Secondly, through death of the fat cell, contraction and shrinkage occurs in the tissues of the target area.
  • LIPODISSOLVE™ can be used on a variety of areas of the body including the arms, chin, belly, hips and legs. LIPODISSOLVE™ functions as both a method for removing fat deposits that remain unaffected by diet and exercise and as an effective technique for treating cellulite.
  • LIPODISSOLVE™ is known as a potential replacement to minor liposuction procedures and good results can be achieved in about 4 sessions, depending on the patient.

Is LIPODISSOLVE™ supported by research?

  • Yes. The therapy is supported by several clinical studies in 2005 and 2006 published in both Europe and the USA. LIPODISSOLVE™ is, without doubt, the cosmetic procedure of the future. Studies from 2003 noted a success rate greater than 96% within four sessions. 72% of patients had satisfactory results in only two sessions.

Is the procedure safe?

  • LIPODISSOLVE™ is extremely promising from a safety aspect. Patients recover quickly in comparison to most cosmetic surgery procedures today. There have been no reports to date of adverse complications that are permanent or life-threatening. Studies and continued monitoring of effects supports a stable safety data of this procedure. Long-term studies are still pending.
  • Side effects such as lumps, bruising, and skin tenderness may occur at the sites of injection, but these are temporary and generally subside within a few days. Rare, but potential risks include adverse allergic reactions against the medications or within the contraindication groups.
  • Patients with cancer, diabetes, liver or kidney disease are usually not good candidates for LIPODISSOLVE™.

Does LIPODISSOLVE™ replace surgery?

  • Both yes and no. LIPODISSOLVE™ cannot replace dramatic surgical procedures, whole-body liposculpture, or extensive skin tightening based on lax underlying tissue. But on the right body type with small to medium fat deposits, LIPODISSOLVE™ can replace some surgery and often accomplish good results without extensive downtime or the complications realistic with surgery.

What are the limitations with LIPODISSOLVE™?

  • LIPODISSOLVE™ is suitable for small to medium fat deposits on patients preferrably having soft or 'liquidy' fat bulges.
  • LIPODISSOLVE™ has limited to unsatisfactory cosmetic results on large volumes of fat on obese body types, or on fat mixed with binding tissue. This treatment cannot replace extensive surgical procedures.
  • LIPODISSOLVE™ cannot be used as a weight loss therapy.
  • LIPODISSOLVE™ may need additional care or show poor results on candidates with metabolic or thyroid disorders.
  • As with any cosmetic treatment, whether surgical or nonsurgical, a proper pre-evaluation is essential when selecting the right candidate for treatment. LIPODISSOLVE™ does not provide instant results and is not a suitable treatment for all patients.

What volume of clinical use stands behind the therapy?

  • Members of The American Society of Aesthetic LIPODISSOLVE™ (ASAL) are estimated to perform over 8,000 procedures per month. Dr. Joel Caschette, the Visage Medical Skin Care’s Medical Director, is a Member of ASAL.
